Scriptures on Money

Learning about money is completely relevant to our lives just like everything else in the Bible. Money is something we need to survive in the world. We need money to give us a roof over our heads and to nourish our bodies.

It is our responsibility to work and earn money. The Bible says that we need to work and we will receive abundance (Prov. 12:11).

Jesus and money are two topics I love to talk about. Learning how to be a good steward of money is one of the topics I cover on this blog.

I have a huge conviction for spending money wisely. The Lord has given me wisdom with money by showing me ways to save money.

I’ve learned better money habits and I love sharing them. What Does The Bible Say About Money?

Money Bible Verses in the Old Testament

Psalm 62:10 – Do not trust in oppression, Nor vainly hope in robbery; If riches increase, Do not set your heart on them.

Proverbs 11:4 – Riches do not profit in the day of wrath, But righteousness delivers from death.

Proverbs 11:28 – He who trusts in his riches will fall, But the righteous will flourish like foliage.

Proverbs 14:31 – He who oppresses the poor reproaches his Maker, But he who honors Him has mercy on the needy.

Proverbs 22:1 – A good name is to be chosen rather than great riches, Loving favor rather than silver and gold.

Proverbs 22:9 – He who has a generous eye will be blessed, For he gives of his bread to the poor.

Proverbs 23:4-5 – Do not overwork to be rich; Because of your own understanding, cease. Will you set your eyes on that which is not? For riches certainly make themselves wings; They fly away like an eagle toward heaven.

Proverbs 28:22 – A man with an evil eye hastens after riches, And does not consider that poverty will come upon him.

Proverbs 28:25 – He who is of a proud heart stirs up strife, But he who trusts in the Lord will be prospered.

Ecclesiastes 5:10 – He who loves silver will not be satisfied with silver; Nor he who loves abundance, with increase. This also is vanity.

Bible Verses About Money in the New Testament

These scriptures on finances are found in the new testament books of the Bible.

Scriptures on Finances

Matthew 6:2-5 – Therefore, when you do a charitable deed, do not sound a trumpet before you as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory from men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward. But when you do a charitable deed, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, that your charitable deed may be in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will Himself reward you openly. “And when you pray, you shall not be like the hypocrites. For they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the corners of the streets, that they may be seen by men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward.

Matthew 6:21 – For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

Matthew 6:24-26 – No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon. “Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?

Mark 4:19 – And the cares of this world, the deceitfulness of riches, and the desires for other things entering in choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful.

Luke 12:15 – And He said to them, “Take heed and beware of covetousness, for one’s life does not consist in the abundance of the things he possesses.”

Luke 16:10-12 – He who is faithful in what is least is faithful also in much, and he who is unjust in what is least is unjust also in much. Therefore if you have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will commit to your trust the true riches? And if you have not been faithful in what is another man’s, who will give you what is your own?

Luke 16:14 – Now the Pharisees, who were lovers of money, also heard all these things, and they derided Him.

2 Corinthians 9:7 – So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver.

1 Timothy 6:6-12 – Now godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. And having food and clothing, with these we shall be content. But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and harmful lusts which drown men in destruction and perdition. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows. But you, O man of God, flee these things and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, gentleness. Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, to which you were also called and have confessed the good confession in the presence of many witnesses.

1 Timothy 6:17-19 – Command those who are rich in this present age not to be haughty, nor to trust in uncertain riches but in the living God, who gives us richly all things to enjoy. 18 Let them do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to give, willing to share, storing up for themselves a good foundation for the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life.

James 5:1-6 – Come now, you rich, weep and howl for your miseries that are coming upon you! 2 Your riches are corrupted, and your garments are moth-eaten. Your gold and silver are corroded, and their corrosion will be a witness against you and will eat your flesh like fire. You have heaped up treasure in the last days. Indeed the wages of the laborers who mowed your fields, which you kept back by fraud, cry out; and the cries of the reapers have reached the ears of the Lord of Sabaoth. You have lived on the earth in pleasure and luxury; you have fattened your hearts as in a day of slaughter. You have condemned, you have murdered the just; he does not resist you.

1 Peter 5:2Shepherd the flock of God which is among you, serving as overseers, not by compulsion but willingly, not for dishonest gain but eagerly.
