I thought I was looking for a prayer for peace and comfort, but deep down I wasn’t.

I was looking for God to take the chaos away.

We all fall into that trap sometimes, right? We think that we are praying for peace, but we’re actually praying that God makes our situation peaceful instead of us peaceful.

Matthew 11:28 -30 ESV says:

“Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”

Unfortunately, Jesus never said he would take away the labor and the “heavy laden”. But he did say but his way is gentle. He also said that when we learn from him, we will find rest in our souls.

Prayers for Peace

Prayer for Peace

Now when I am trying to pray for peace and comfort, instead of praying my own prayers, I try to pray using God‘s word.

I find that when I go straight to scripture to create my prayers, they tend to align with what he wants and his glory, instead of me selfishly trying to make a chaotic situation peaceful when I need to make myself peaceful.

God wants us to be comforted. His Word says so.

It can be hard to believe when things don’t go our way, or when prayers for pain relief are unanswered, God wants to walk beside us on the journey to bring us peace.

Prayers for Peace and Comfort

I have listed ten Bible verses below. After each verse, I have changed it into a prayer with a little explanation. Hopefully, this leads to easier scripture memorization to be able to pray with God’s will.

Prayers for Strength and Peace

1. Psalm 27:12

The LORD is my light and my salvation; Whom shall I fear? The LORD is the strength of my life; Of whom shall I be afraid? When the wicked came against me To eat up my flesh, My enemies and foes, They stumbled and fell.” Psalm 27:12 NKJV

Dear Lord, You are my light and my salvation. Please teach me to not fear anything else. Lord, you are the strength of my life. What else can I be afraid of when you are my strength? When the wicked come against me, let them stumble and fall according to your will. Help me on a path of righteousness so I can always find peace and comfort in knowing I am following you. Amen.

2. Isaiah 41:10

“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” Isaiah 41:10 NIV

Dear Lord, teach me to fear not because you are with me. Help me to never be dismayed, for you are my God. Strengthen me, help me, and uphold me with your righteous right hand, Amen.

3. Colossians 1:11

“that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; strengthened with all might, according to His glorious power, for all patience and longsuffering with joy” Colossians 1:10-11 ESV

Lord, help me to walk worthy with you in ways that fully please you. Help me to be fruitful in every good work and increase my knowledge of you, God. Strengthen me with all your might, according to your glorious power. Help me handle all patience and longsuffering with joy, Amen.

4. Psalm 46:1-3

“God is our refuge and strength, A very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, Even though the earth be removed,
And though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; Though its waters roar and be troubled, Though the mountains shake with its swelling.” Psalm 46:1-3 NKJV

God, thank you for being my refuge and strength. Thank you for being a very present help in trouble. Therefore, I will not fear, even though the earth be removed. Even though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea, though its waters roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with its swelling, you will provide me peace and comfort. Amen

Prayers for Peace of Mind

5. John 14:27

“Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” John 14:27 ESV

Lord, thank you for leaving me with peace. Leaving it with me means I don’t have to keep giving it back to you. Help me to feel your peace, not as the world gives peace but as you do. Help my heart to not be troubled or afraid, Amen.

6. James 1:2-3

“My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience.” James 1:2-3 NKJV

Dear God, help me to count all of my jobs daily, especially when I fall into various trials. Help me know that the testing of my faith produces patience and will give me peace and comfort, Amen.

7. Matthew 19:26

“But Jesus looked at them and said to them, “With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” Matthew 19:26 NIV

Dear Lord, I know that what I do on my own is impossible. Yet with you, all things are possible. The peace and comfort I am striving for I know is there for me to receive. Help me breakthrough to receive that peace, no matter the trial, Amen.

Prayers for Peace

8. Psalm 23:4

“Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.” Psalm 23:4 NIV

To be honest, I pray that prayer above word-for-word instead of creating a similar prayer. That is an amazing verse to have memorized and can provide the answer to a prayer for peace and comfort on its own.

9. Romans 8:38-39

“For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 8:38-39 NKJV

Lord, I know that nothing will be able to separate us from you. Neither life nor death, principalities or powers, nor things present nor things to come. No other created thing will separate us either from the love of God which is in you O Lord, Amen.

10. Joshua 1:9

“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9 NKJV

Lord, thank you for your commands. Help me be strong and of good courage. Give me encouragement to not be afraid or dismayed. Please provide me with constant reminders that you are with me wherever I go, Amen.”

How Do I Create My Own Prayer for Peace?

To create a prayer for peace, you first want to make sure you are following God’s guidance instead of the world’s guidance.

Next, make sure you are tackling the subject of worry in the Bible before you tackle peace. Learn what the Bible says about worry.

After that, creating your own prayer for peace is simple.

Peace Is A Gift From God

Even though the urge to get rid of the chaotic situation may be strong, find a prayer for peace and comfort instead of praying for a situation to go away quickly. It gives us a chance to grow with God and find peace in the chaos. And God will never let you down.

“And when in doubt, pray God’s words. “Let, I pray, Your merciful kindness be for my comfort, According to Your word to Your servant.” Psalm 119:76 NKJV
