The Holy Spirit has been here from the beginning of creation. He is one with the Father and the Son.
When we receive Jesus as our personal Lord and Savior, we receive the Holy Spirit. He dwells within us and reveals God’s Truth and guides us.
Who is the Holy Spirit? How can I receive the Holy Spirit? How does the Holy Spirit affect your walk as a Christian?
What is the Holy Spirit?
Simply put, the Holy Spirit is the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost. God, our Father, is the Holy Spirit.
When Jesus was alive, he shared his faith with all of the people he encountered. He tried to introduce them to the Holy Spirit through his work.
How to Receive the Holy Spirit
If you want to receive the Holy Spirit, you have to be born again.
In order to become born again, simply pray to Jesus and acknowledge that you are a sinner, repent, and ask for forgiveness. Then you will receive the Holy Spirit.
Surrender your will to His and commit to living a faith-filled life through Jesus Christ. The Bible tells us that Jesus is the only way to the Father.
Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” John 14:6
The Holy Spirit dwells within us and leads us into all truth. He convicts us of right and wrong and guides us into a life that is pleasing to God.
You may wonder how you will know if the Holy Spirit is inside of you. Take a moment to reflect on different times in your life such as, have you ever been led to suddenly perform a random act of kindness to a stranger such as paying for their coffee? Their meal? Have you ever just felt the need to tell someone you are thinking about them?
Those are different ways the Holy Spirit works through us. Pray to Him and ask Him to use you as a vessel. Amazing things will happen when you open your heart to all of the possibilities he puts in front of you.
The Bible tells us that as Christ-followers we will receive gifts of the Holy Spirit. Pray and ask the Lord to reveal your gift to you and use your gift to glorify Him.
Holy Spirit Bible Verses
Here are some of my favorite scriptures about the Holy Spirit. The Bible verses below are from KJV.
“But truly I am full of power by the spirit of the LORD, and of judgment, and of might, to declare unto Jacob his transgression, and to Israel his sin. Hear this, I pray you, ye heads of the house of Jacob, and princes of the house of Israel, that abhor judgment, and pervert all equity. They build up Zion with blood, and Jerusalem with iniquity.” Micah 3:8-10
“Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men. And whosoever* speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever* speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come. Either make the tree good, and his fruit good; or else make the tree corrupt, and his fruit corrupt: for the tree is known by his fruit.” Matthew 12:31-33
“That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again. The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.” John 3:6-8
“And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven.” Acts 2:1-5
“For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death. For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh: That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit. For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.” Romans 8:2-6
